Sweden Trip ~What is FIKA~

 Hey, I’m Sami.

Here is about my experience in Sweden during Easter holiday.

The Easter season is a major holiday time in Denmark as Christmas.

All of sudden, do you know the meaning of the word,

“FIKA”

It is usually translated as “A relaxing coffee and cake break”.

However, it is much more than that.

Fika is a concept, an attitude and an important part of Swedish culture.

Many Swedes consider that it is almost essential to make time for fika every day.

It means making time for friends and colleagues to share a cup of coffee or tea,

and a little something to eat, such as Swedish cinnamon roll.

Fika can be a verb. So you could say, "Let's go and fika!"

*Princess cake (Swedish traditional cake)

All Swedes consider it important to make time to stop and socialise; to take a pause.

Therefore, they shoot to have a good, quality fika session several times a day,

which can happen everywhere, and any time.

so FIka is a moment to slow down and appreciate the good things in life.

IT IS VEYR SIMPLE.

YOU JUST TRY TO MAKE THE TIME

TO MAKE THE CLASSIC FIKA TREATS YOURSELF.

Danish Public School (About Safety Education) ~Field Survey version2~

Hello, this is Sami.

Let's continue where we left off last time!

We are talking about "Danish public school".

Last main topic is "ParentIntra" which is a communication tool between teachers, parents and students.

Today, I would like to introduce to you "Safety Education" at school.

In Denmark, As you know, people bicycle in all types of weather and

at all types of days. Bicycles are used for commuting, transport of goods and

extensive networks of bike lanes and bike highways make it easy.

Look at this! Can you imagine how many people use them?

f:id:asami1026:20190411055522p:plain

In Copenhagen, at rush hour

I would say the bike is a Dane's best friend.

In General, Children get started with a small pedal-free bike at age 2 or 3.

At school, they learn about trafic rules and road safety.

f:id:asami1026:20190411060924p:plain

However, what if students don't have such a bike culture?

As I told you, at the school where I visited,

90% of students are from other countries, which means they are not used to take a bike.

Therefore, there is an issue that they tend to go out with bike,

instead, just stay at the limited area where they make a living together.

It's because students hesitate to take a bike to city and break trafic rules even intentionally.

Accordingly, To make students get used to it,

this school have more than 50 bikes in the basement for their practices whenever they want to do.

f:id:asami1026:20190411063457j:plain

In addition, they are also not used to visit a museum

therefore some classes take them to there bicycling!

f:id:asami1026:20190411064450j:plain

I think that is the good way how to make people from other countries get known and used to a Danish culture!

Because I feel like I want to respect the country where I stay even for a certain period of time.

We should respect each perspective, each culture, and each background.

Danish Public School (About ParentIntra) ~Field Survey version1~

 Hi! I am Sami.

I am feeling pressed for a time as a day of departure from Denmark is coming.

feel like "Are there anything else to be able to do only here in Denmark!?"

such as intership, career job conference in Europe and so on...

As far as i know, there is no need to hurry

so I am gonna tell you about one of Danish school where I visited.

(Introduction of school)⭐️

  1. School Name:  Abildgårdskolen
  2. Address:  Gillestedvej 15, 5240 Odense, Denmark
  3. Website:   http://abildgaardskolen.skoleporten.dk/sp
  4. Features of this school:
  • There are 426 students
  • 90 percent of them are bilingual, multilingual.
  • Arabic or Somali background
  • Students are from 20 different countries
  • 24 general classes and 1 special class
  • Student centered learning

I did interview the principle of this school and talked for about one and half hour.

then he took me for school tour~!

I am gonna discribe below what he talked to me.

(Sami=S, Principle=P)

S: First, I would like to ask you about ParentIntra.

I would like to know what it is working and managed in details.

f:id:asami1026:20190403192532p:plain

( This app can be a communication tool among teachers, parents and students.

P: Speaking of it, it has been used for more than 25 years.

It is kinda getting one of the typical Education systems in Denmark.

it is based on teachers, parents and students.

What you can do with this app is...

  1. Get the opportunity to contact and communicate directly with teachers and paretns of students.
  2. Stundents can cheak out their homework.
  3. Resister for school functions or events
  4. See pictures uploaded by teachers to see what students did in school

In this way, the parents don't need to get all papers and the traditional contact notebook and it is replaced with the online communication.

However, there are some problems.

f:id:asami1026:20190403200014j:plain

First, some teachers try to communicate with their paretns so often

but unfortunately others are not that much.

So It depneds on teachers how often this app works.

Also, some of parents don't have electronic devices such as laptops, smartphone, etc.

because they are not afforable to have them for financial reasons.

so as for them, even though they get the electronic devices, it would take a time to get how to use them.

Moreover, as I mentioned before, most of students and parents are not from Denmark.

They came to Denmark for immigration or refugees.

Therefore some of them are not good at communicating in Danish.

As for such parents, to communicate with them,

here is some ideas what we do in school.

f:id:asami1026:20190403202258j:plain

  1. We have "Translators" between teachers and parents to make it smooth to communicate with each other
  2. We have conferences between teachers and parents four times a year.
  3. As for people who don't have some devices, teachers are try to call them, or have them over school to talk in person.

S: I feel like you make communications very important for every single stakeholder to participate in. Also, I would say you try to solve some difficulties facing step by step.

...... To be continue.....

Today, I just finished talking about the parentIntra as a main topic of this article.

Otherwise, there is bunch of topics that I have not mentioned yet...

so See you next time~!

*picture on an entrance wall at school, saying “Abildgårdskolen”

How are you feeling? depends on weather

Hi! I’m Sami!

Do I look delicious?

Does my personality change in any way?

By the way, I’ve been seeing myself for next step after study abroad.

I sincerely appreciate Denmark to make me think of myself in a good way.

Wherever I’m depressed and loosing a confidence of myself, I feel like...

it’s all right. It is like more human being to struggle with anything facing to me.”

As for my Japanese friend, whom I respect, he is intentionally putting himself in a place where he is at the bottom of there.”

That is an awesome way to Change everything wrong and harsh to a Bright energy for going forward to next step.

“ When you feel satisfied with your life, it’s over and it means Death .”

That’s what I made a speech for entrance ceremony at university in 2015 as a representation of new graduate students.

I still agree with my opinion.

Stay hungry, stay foolish.

Happy study abroad...?

Hej, this is Asami.

Happy super delayed new year!!

and also Valentine’s Day ❤️

Today,

I would like to talk about my interests in the discrimination toward Asian or women

f:id:asami1026:20190408220430j:plain

As for People who have stayed out of home country for several years or have lived, they might have experienced discriminations once in some ways.

I did as well sometimes because of Japanese or Asian.

Someone have Stereotypes or something to feel frustrated or unsatisfied with

worldwide problems such as poverty, religions and politics which is understandable.

Meanwhile,

it is also true that there are a lot of people who want to come to Japan or love Japanese culture, music, movie, cartoons and food!!

At the point,

I really appreciate world-renowned Japanese people such as Miyazaki Hayao,

some manga artists, Murakami Haruki and so on.

Thanks for all of them who represent Japanese in the world,

f:id:asami1026:20190408220622j:plain

I am likely to meet people who are interested in Japan.

Even there are still discriminations toward Asian,

I’m gonna keep doing my best to introduce Japan for all of them who I will meet

and have already met before, being proud of my country.

At the same time,

it is also important to respect and be interested in different cultures or opinions.

Have a nice weekend ❤️

God Jul...Merry Christmas

 Hej, this is Asami.

How are you spending a happy holiday?

I visited one of my Danish friends’ families and spend Christmas with them.

Around noo, Danes start preparing for decorating the Christmas tree, putting a lot of gifts underneath the tree and just waiting for Dinner with nuts, Christmas apples and oranges through playing games or watching the movie “Home Alone”.

f:id:asami1026:20181225122950j:image

And then what we are waiting for a loooong time is Danish traditional Christmas cuisine!

f:id:asami1026:20181225123212j:image

After finished eating, We were almost full of bunch of food...

In Danish Christmas, they usually don’t eat chicken instead of duck and pig.

However, we had no rest then proceeded to sing Christmas songs together ~ even in Danish, that was sooo amazing...it made me feel so comfortable.

In general, Danes make a circle around the Christmas tree and sing a song

f:id:asami1026:20181225123606j:image

And finally It’s time to exchange Christmas presents!!!!

In Denmark, it’s usual to do it after dinner at Christmas Eve, not in the morning on 25th.

In my friend’s house, someone pick one of the presents from underneath the tree and call the name who can get the gift.

It is also the time to eat Christmas snacks:)!

f:id:asami1026:20181225123954j:image

f:id:asami1026:20181225124411j:image

After the time,

Let’s play the Danish games to exchange small presents with Dice.

In general, If you get the 6, you can pick up one of the presents.

After every present was gone, you can pick up the presents from other people if you get 6! But if you get 1 or 3, you don’t have to slide one of gifts which you have  to next person.

In 20 - 30 minutes, it’s kind of survival for presents!!!!

f:id:asami1026:20181225125228j:imagel

After all, we are gonna eat “Resalamande”, rice pudding with berry souses. If you get a whole big almond, a new present is gonna be for you~!!!!

f:id:asami1026:20181225125501j:image

This is how to spend the Christmas Day in Denmark.

Off course, depending on the each family, it’s slightly difference.

but I think the concept is the same.

“ JUL HYGGE”

Have a wonderful holiday 🎅🏻🎄

The worst thing since came in Denmark

Hello, this is Sami.

I would like to talk about my worst thing happened since came here in Denmark.

BE Careful and pay attention to pickpockets!!

as you can expect, my wallet was pickpocketed... when I took around Copenhagen.

It included every credit cards, yellow card and residence card😭

Though I had such a awful day,

I really appreciate this experience to realize “LOVE” by everyone who helped me.

I had been dreaming of only “romantic love” but now I’ve totally changed my mind and I’m luckily beside love whenever I face some hardships.

Thank YOU ALL who gave me huge love and kindness from the bottom of my mind.

It’ll be my turn to give it back to them after getting my new credit card...😂
