Today, Japan is bracing itself for Typhoon Hagibis, the most powerful storm to hit the country in 60 years, to make landfall near Tokyo...
Where I live in japan is also around Tokyo so right now i can hear sounds of strong wind and heavy rainfall...😢🌀ready for evacuation with water and food just in case.
The typhoon has already hit more than 7,000 households in the greater Tokyo area and they are without electricity because of Typhoon Hagibis...
It doesn't feel real yet coz that this typhoon is the biggest and strongest.
It's kinda strange for me....😲I kinda used to it coz Japan is often hit by a lot of kinds of natural disasters. I hope nothing worst happen...
By the way, last night I felt like I wanted to watch a documentary on netflix called "City of Joy". I already have watched it once and it inspired me a lot.
At the same time, 11th October is " International day of the girl" so today I want to introduce the movie. I am gonna talk about it based on what I watched on netflix and this homepage.
What is The City of Joy??
The City of Joy is a transformational leadership community for women survivors of violence, located in Bukavu, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Conceived, owned, and run by local Congolese, the City of Joy has flourished since it first opened its doors in June 2011, healing women from their past trauma through therapy and life skills programming while providing them with the essential ingredients needed to move forward in life – love and community.
While the world has gradually achieved progress towards gender equality and women’s empowerment, there are still unfortunately some coutries where most of women don't have the right for free education or healthy and safe life.
In the eastern DRC, for example, since 1996, sexual and gender violence has been used to torture and humiliate women and girls and destroy families...
Some regions are famous as a mineral-rich land so there is a conflict between warring militias and its vast natural resources has
claimed 6 million lives in the DRC through armed conflict, hunger, and disease.
According to UN report, multi-national corporations from all over the world have been involved in the exploitation of natural resources from DRC. The DRC is a major supplier of the world's Coltan, Tin, Tungsten and Gold...
Otherwise known as conflict minerals. Around the mines, there are a lots of rape.
Surprising that these companies are from above coutries...
and also from some japanese ones like Sony, Nintendo adn Sharp....
what this woman said below moved me a lot...
In DRC, even in Japan, we were taught that it is a sin to say the word "Vagina". But this community "city of joy" to empower women's rights teach them that they can never be them if they have not accepted themselves.
I love what she is teaching on the above picture... and also tells that "You have an organ that is very important and beautiful.
It reminded me of what my roommate told me when I was in Denmark.
When I first tried to use and put a menstrual cup, it didn't succeed coz i had never tried to know where is my vagina.
As I mentioned it to my roomie and she surprisingly said...
"Why don't you try to get know about yourself??
You can never be confident in yourself as far as you don't try to face yourself."
Since then, I have been facing all of my aspects, both strengths and weaknesses. DON'T BE AFRAID TO LOOK AT IT.

As they are doing in City of Joy, Have you ever tried to look at yourself?
I suppose that they would be more powerful and stronger as women than ones in Japan or other developed coutries.

現在私が住んでいる地域では、史上最強レベルの台風の目が通過している最中です。
近くの川が氾濫して浸水しないか、ハラハラしております･･･😧
しかしこれこそ自然の力なので、とりあえず受け入れます。
今日は、昨夜観たNetflixシリーズ「City of Joy」についてお話します！
1度デンマークで観た時に、とっっっっっても衝撃的で色々考えさせられました。
なぜ昨日観たのかと言うと、10月11日は「国際ガールズデー」なので、
なんとなく女性として考えさせられる映画観たいな〜と思ってNetflixをあさりました。
国際ガールズデーとは、「女の子の権利」や「女の子のエンパワーメント」の促進を、広く国際社会に呼びかける日。

以下、Netflixで観た映像とCity of Joyのホームページを参考にして話していきます！
City of Joyとは？
性暴力から生き残った女性のエンパワーメントを行うために、女性のリーダーシップを向上させるコミュニティーのこと。
コンゴ民主共和国とルワンダの国境付近に「ブカブ」という町に、City of Joyと呼ばれている、女性達のためのプログラムやトレーニングなどが行われる施設があります。
2011年6月から始まっており、男性からの性暴力によって、精神的に落ち込んだ女性達をケアするセラピーが行われたり、ライフスキルトレーニングとして、女性達の自己肯定感を向上させる目的で、様々なプログラムが行われています。
「コンゴの紛争鉱物」を知っていますか？
この地域では広大な熱帯雨林が広がっており、金や銅、木材、スズ、コバルト、ダイヤモンド、タンタルなど、豊富な天然資源に恵まれています。しかし、それを狙う世界中の大企業が、コンゴで争いを引き起こす大きな原因を作りました。つまりコンゴの戦争は「経済戦争」であり、戦争には多くの先進国が関わっています。

👆どんな企業がコンゴへ･･･？
日本の大企業が幾つか浮かび上がってきた時はとてもショックでした。
何より、そんなことを知らなかった無知の自分を恥じました。
コンゴの民兵たちの中には、多国籍企業のために働いている者がいます。
しかし民兵たちは自分たちが何のために、誰のために働いているのか知りません。
銃を与えられた民兵は、銃さえあれば生活できる、他に何も持たなくても女性のレイプならできる、と思うのです。

私が印象的だったのは、銃を持ってにこやかに笑う少年でした。（以下写真）
もしこの紛争が無ければ、
「銃」を持つ代わりに、「ペン」や「ノート」を持ち、
「人を傷つけること」を知る代わりに、「人を助けたり、喜ばせる」ことを学べたでしょう。
それを潰した紛争や戦争は、決して他人事ではなく、私たちが需要を生み出し、それが原因で企業や経済が動かし、結果的に児童労働、紛争、女性への性暴力を引き起こしてしまうことを知って欲しいです。
そして、以下の写真で泣いている女性のように、レイプされたことで「自分は生きる価値がない」と思って苦しむ人が沢山います。
どんなプログラムが行われているの？
City of Joyでは様々なプログラムが行われています。
私が印象的だったのは、自分の性器と向き合う授業です。
もちろん最初の反応はコンゴの女性にとって、「膣という言葉を発するのはおこがましい。」日本人も前回の「性教育について」で話したとおり、「膣」や「生理」の話をするのは暗黙の了解でタブーですよね。
しかし、先生は言います。
「本当の自分になるためには、自分と向き合うべき。
自分と向き合うということは、自分の体を知るということ。
自分の性器は、醜いものでもなく、恥じるモノでもなく、
私たち女性にとって、とても大切で美しいものである。」
この先生の言葉が、デンマーク時代にハンガリーのルームメイトに言われた言葉と重なりました。
自分の膣なんて見たことなかったし、そんなことをしている自分は恥ずかしいと思っていました。しかし、ルームメイトはそんな私の態度を見て、「自分のことを知らずに、自分に自信を持つことは出来るのか？」と言ってくれました。
最高に心に刺さりました。なんで恥ずかしがる必要があるのか。
「自分の全てを受け入れる」というのはまさにこういう事だろうと。
完璧主義な私は、そんないらないプライドを少しずつ捨てようと努力してます。
きれい事をここで並べるのは簡単だし、いくら頭でわかっていても、自分のダメだ部分、嫌な部分、恥ずかしい部分を受け入れることは難しいです。
でも努力と経験でなんとかなる、とも思ってます。
ちなみに、この授業の続きとして、
参加女性達は、自分の膣を鏡で観察し、それをスケッチして、
みんなでどんなものかを共有していました。（以下写真）
そして1人の女性が、
「自分の膣と向き合って、とても大切で繊細な部分だと知り、
大切な人にしか触らせたくない、見せたくないという思いが強まりました。」
と発言していて、私はなぜか心がとても温かくなりました。
